Check Out Blackpool’s World-Famous Illuminations

Matt Crisp September 29, 2017

The nights have certainly started drawing in and the clocks haven’t even gone back yet. So it should come as little surprise to learn that the illuminations at Blackpool are once again in full swing, lighting up the seaside town’s six-mile long promenade.

Every year there’s a big Switch On event for the illuminations – this year it took place on 1st September, with DJ Wire, Diversity and Louisa Johnson among the performers entertaining the crowds who flocked to see the lights turn on for the first time.

But don’t worry if you missed the switch on event – the lights will be shining bright every evening until 5th November, so you’ve got plenty of time to arrange coach hire to Blackpool and head up there with a group of friends or family.

New for 2017 are a number of sponsored features, according to the Manchester Evening News, with highlights including the giant illuminated castles on show courtesy of Genting Casino, and a new light show at the 3D Carleton Fountains, which is sponsored by the Best Western Carleton Hotel.

Favourite installations such as Star Trek, Beach House Boulevard, Mandarin Lanterns and Art for Walls are all back this year, with plenty more to discover on an evening stroll around the seaside resort.

If you’re travelling to Blackpool you should make an evening of it and enjoy some of the town’s famous nightlife. The Culture Trip recommends heading to Flamingo Club if you have a penchant for dance music, while Scrooge’s Wine Bar is the place to go for a cheaper drink and some live music.

As it’s almost October, you could get into the spirit of Oktoberfest by visiting the town’s Bavarian Bierkeller too.
